Expanding Rural Broadband

Access to fast, reliable internet is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity for education, health care, small business growth, and staying connected with loved ones. Yet, too many rural families and businesses in TX-17 are left behind by slow speeds, unreliable connections, and high costs. This digital divide holds back students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and entire communities. One of the biggest barriers is the unchecked power of monopolies and a lack of competition among internet service providers. In too many rural areas, a single company controls the market, driving up prices and limiting choices for consumers. J. Gordon Mitchell will:

  • Fight for federal and state investments to expand high-speed broadband infrastructure to every rural home, school, and business in TX-17.
  • Advocate for fair and open digital markets by supporting strong antitrust enforcement and breaking up internet service monopolies.
  • Encourage local and cooperative broadband solutions, empowering communities to create their own affordable networks if big providers won’t step up.
  • Promote transparency and consumer protections to ensure families get the speeds and service they pay for, without hidden fees or unfair contracts.
  • Prioritize digital equity, so all residents—including seniors, students, and low-income families—can access affordable broadband and the opportunities it brings.

With J. Gordon Mitchell’s leadership, no rural community will be left in the digital dark. He’ll work tirelessly to connect every part of TX-17, ensure fair prices, and level the playing field for all.
